Ingredients

Hot Dog Mixture
  • 8 links hot dogs sliced into rounds
  • 1 can baked beans 15 oz, any variety
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese for topping
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables thawed
  • 1 cup ketchup for flavor
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard for flavor
Base
  • 1 cup uncooked macaroni elbow or shell pasta
  • 2 cups water for cooking pasta
  • 1 teaspoon salt for pasta water
Topping
  • 1 cup bread crumbs for crunch
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted

Method

Prepare the Pasta
  1. In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add 1 teaspoon of salt.
  2. Once boiling, add 1 cup of uncooked macaroni. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 7-8 minutes.
  3. Drain the pasta and set aside.
Cook the Hot Dog Mixture
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the sliced hot dogs and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. This enhances their flavor and texture.
  2. Add the baked beans, thawed mixed vegetables, ketchup, and yellow mustard to the skillet. Stir well to combine and heat through, about 3-4 minutes.
Combine and Assemble
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni with the hot dog mixture. Stir until everything is evenly mixed.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  3. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
Prepare the Topping
  1. In a small bowl, mix the bread crumbs with 2 tablespoons of melted butter until evenly coated.
  2. Sprinkle the bread crumb mixture over the cheese layer in the casserole.
Bake the Casserole
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the top is golden brown.
  3. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before serving. This helps the casserole set up a bit for easier serving.
