Method
Prepare the Pasta
- In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add 1 teaspoon of salt.
- Once boiling, add 1 cup of uncooked macaroni. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 7-8 minutes.
- Drain the pasta and set aside.
Cook the Hot Dog Mixture
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the sliced hot dogs and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. This enhances their flavor and texture.
- Add the baked beans, thawed mixed vegetables, ketchup, and yellow mustard to the skillet. Stir well to combine and heat through, about 3-4 minutes.
Combine and Assemble
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni with the hot dog mixture. Stir until everything is evenly mixed.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
Prepare the Topping
- In a small bowl, mix the bread crumbs with 2 tablespoons of melted butter until evenly coated.
- Sprinkle the bread crumb mixture over the cheese layer in the casserole.
Bake the Casserole
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the top is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before serving. This helps the casserole set up a bit for easier serving.

Notes
This casserole can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator before baking. Just add an extra 10-15 minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
