  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • Optional: Cream cheese frosting for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time followed by vanilla extract.
  4. Stir in red food coloring until desired shade is achieved.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Using a cookie scoop, drop rounded balls of dough onto prepared baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  7. Allow cookies to cool before adding cream cheese frosting if desired.
