Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • For the Frosting: 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp milk (adjust as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt butter completely. Stir in granulated sugar until well combined.
  3. Whisk in cocoa powder until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture until just combined—avoid overmixing.
  5. Pour brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs.
  6. While brownies cool, beat together cream cheese and cocoa powder until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and milk to achieve desired frosting consistency.
  7. Once cooled, generously frost the brownies and cut into squares.
