  • 1 cup smoked Gouda cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the elbow macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente (about 8 minutes). Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter until bubbly but not browned. Whisk in the flour until smooth; cook for 1 minute.
  3. Gradually add milk while whisking continuously until the mixture thickens (about 3-5 minutes).
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the smoked Gouda and sharp cheddar until melted. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until fully coated.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer mac and cheese to a greased baking dish, topping with panko breadcrumbs if desired.
  7. Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown on top.
