  • 1 head green cabbage (1012 leaves)
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz each) diced tomatoes with herbs
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cabbage by washing and removing the core; peel off 10-12 leaves carefully.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté onions and minced garlic until fragrant.
  3. In a large bowl, mix ground meat, cooked rice, sautéed onions, Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, and pepper.
  4. Layer half of the canned tomatoes at the bottom of the slow cooker; add half of the cabbage leaves followed by half of the meat mixture. Repeat layers.
  5. Pour remaining tomatoes and beef broth over the layered ingredients.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours until cabbage is tender.
