Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk (warm)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Your favorite cream filling (pastry cream, whipped cream, etc.)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk until slightly warm to the touch. Combine with sugar and sprinkle yeast on top; let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk flour and salt together. Create a well in the center.
  3. Add eggs, melted butter, and yeast mixture to the well; mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with cloth, and let rise in a warm area until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  6. Punch down the risen dough and roll out to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut into circles using a donut cutter.
  7. Heat oil in a deep pot over medium heat; fry donuts until golden brown on both sides.
  8. Cool slightly before filling each donut with cream using a piping bag; dust with powdered sugar.
