  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 28 oz canned diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh oregano, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef or sausage over medium heat. Drain excess fat. Add diced tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper; simmer for 15 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese with half of the Parmesan cheese until smooth.
  4. Layer ingredients in the baking dish: start with meat sauce, then noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, and mozzarella. Repeat layers ending with mozzarella on top.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Allow to cool briefly before slicing and serving.
