  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese (whole milk)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the ziti in salted boiling water until al dente (about 8 minutes). Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat for 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in marinara sauce and let simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese with half of the mozzarella and Parmesan until creamy.
  5. In a baking dish, layer half of the cooked ziti, half of the meat sauce, and half of the cheese mixture. Repeat layers.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan. Bake uncovered for about 30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
