  • 12 oz ziti pasta
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (sweet or spicy)
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a large baking dish.
  2. Cook the ziti in salted boiling water until al dente; drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, brown the Italian sausage over medium heat; drain excess fat.
  4. In a large bowl, mix cooked ziti, sausage, marinara sauce, ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella, and half of the Parmesan.
  5. Layer half of the mixture in the baking dish; sprinkle fresh basil. Top with remaining pasta and cheeses.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes; remove foil and bake an additional 5 minutes until golden brown.
